31st ANNUAL OPEN MATCH RESULTS

Sunday 13th November 2011.

Sundays 6 hour open competition started at 1000 hrs, with an hour and a half of ebb left before low water of 1.5m. Conditions were as good as one would expect for this time of year, with low cloud, light drizzle, a south easterly wind and some north easterly swell. 101 competitors were entered and competing for the £400 1st prize, £200 for 2nd and £100 for 3rd. Special prizes of £50 for 10th and 20th places.
The scales were open at 1630 -1715 hrs. 24 anglers weighed in, at the Fleece on Church Street, 46 fish for a total weight of 90 lbs 07 oz. Hot food was provided for the anglers before the presentation of prizes. Martin Greaves of Whitby Angling Supplies was on hand to hand over the winners prizes. After which there was a raffle which was well supported.

A Cass won the special prize for heaviest flattie.

The Whitby Sea Anglers are a rover shore fishing club whose season starts the 1st Wednesday after the ‘Scarborough Fishing Festival’ ends, in late September. Matches are fished every Wednesday and Sunday until the end of March. A season comprises of approximately 50-52 matches.

First match of the 2011-2012 season was wednesday 28th September 2011, (announced at AGM 31st Aug 2011):

WSAA have an Open Match (see below for details) which is always two weeks after the Filey Open (30th October 2011).

The first match of the season all anglers must meet at the Bandstand between 6.30 - 6.45pm (see rule 1). All new members welcome. In 2010 we had 28 members who between them caught 1738 lb of fish.

Fishing times:

7pm - 10pm Wednesday and 6pm - 10pm on Sunday, the weigh in takes place outside Whitby Angling Supplies on Haggersgate from 10pm to 1030pm.

The members meet for refreshment afterwards at the Ship Inn, food is provided on Wednesdays only.

Club Membership for adults is £20 (increased at AGM 31st Aug 2011): including an insurance premium.

Club Membership for juniors is currently £8.50 including an insurance premium.

Match entry £2 (increased at AGM 31st Aug 2011): 75% is paid out. 3/6th 1st, 2/6th 2nd and 1/6th 3rd.

The club also operates a monthly ‘heaviest fish’ and ‘heaviest bag’ sweep, singles and doubles knockouts, Christmas Match and of course the annual Open event. See Rule 14 club night boundaries, which are different to the Open match.

This years winner Mark Jackson with the

Open match and heaviest fish trophies

Whitby sea anglers held there annual open match yesterday Sunday the 22nd of November.

Seventy six seniors and one junior took part in the shore event.

Mark Jackson was the winner with a single fish of 5LB-9oz, 2nd place Rob Allison a single fish of 5LB-1oz ,3rd Paul Kilpatrick again a single fish of 2LB. Junior Winner was Ryan Vasey.

In total only three senior and one junior anglers weighed in. The weigh in took place at the middle Fleece pub where hot food was served,the presentation and raffle took place.Many thanks to the landlord and his team for making us so welcome and supporting the event over the past years.

WHITBY SEA ANGLERS OPEN NOVEMBER 2008

Winner Mick Chadwick from Scarborough with the 16lb-13oz fish part of a 19lb-140z bag.

Whitby sea anglers held there annual open match yesterday Sunday 16th November.
Eighty two seniors and four juniors took part in the shore event.
As you can see from the picture above Mick Chadwick was the winner with two fish for 19lb-40z including the massive fish of 16lb-13oz job well done Mick! 2nd place Mike Marshal & 3rd Phil France. Junior Winner was Ryan Vasey, runner up Sean Graham.
Intotal 23 anglers wieghed in 34 fish for over 100lb. The wiegh in took place at the middle Fleece pub where hot food was served,the presentation and raffle took place.Many thanks to the landlord and his team for making us so welcome and supporting the event over the past years.
